I bought this to hide away my router and NAS, which it does nicely.More importantly I think is that I was able to place the antennas higher for better line-of-sight to my other network devices.I do wish the included 6-ft cable could be just a teeny bit thinner.
It serves the purpose by increasing my wifi signal. I'm very happy with my purchase.
No low ratings because somebody didn't notice the antennas were not included in the photo or description. Only a 5 Star was they perform extremely well. I put a Range Extender in the middle and wireless reception is exceptionally well in the shop upstairs, a separate building.
Setup works well, as mentioned above, at an almost clear, open air Line-Of-Sight (one low angle bounce of about 30 degrees) range of about 190 ft. Did not bother trying the stand with the original, smaller Linksys antennas that came on the router, a standard Linksys 54G NOT the speed booster or N, as I already bought and was using the better antennas.
I'm using the larger, "aftermarket" size antennas and can mount the antennas where they give me the best connection. Also, I did a "custom" mounting (upside down from a rafter) and had to pop the base off the stand for a minute; found they have a metal plate in the stand to act as a ground plane :).
Works really well. Now the signal stays at 8-14 db above the noise level and and data usually transfers at 36mbps (receive) and sometimes runs up to the 54mbps G max.
My signal strength on the Linksys monitor software went from the 30% range to the mid-50's. Previously, I'd be knocked off the air; sometimes for hours at a time.
The computer is connected with a Linksys USB adapter (no internal card) using a longer USB cable, 10 ft, than came with the adapter for better placement. to the USB adapted desktop PC; and throughout the house at 48/54mbps on a laptop with built-in wireless G.
Great, extending with cable dont reduce the reception and moving the antennas place is very convinient.
